A dimensioner is an automated device that measures dimensions such as length, width, and height of parcels, polybags, cubes, and irregularly shaped items in under a second.
These automated dimensioners are used for various purposes, including building SKU master data, calculating shipping costs, and billing customers for the volume their packages occupy.
vMeasure offers four types of dimensioners for varied parcel and freight measurement needs:
vMeasure Parcel Ultima – Measures anything from an envelope to a mid-sized refrigerator.
vMeasure Pallet Ultima – Designed for palletized freight and bulky shipments.
vMeasure In-Motion – High-speed dimensioning for parcels moving on a conveyor belt, ideal for automated operations.
vMeasure Mobile Dimensioner – An iOS app that uses the iPhone 13 Pro camera to capture parcel dimensions and weight instantly for on-the-go dimensioning.
The vMeasure parcel dimensioner can be set up in three different modes depending on your operational workflow and SKU types:
  • Small SKU Mode at the mount height of 1.1 meters – For measuring envelopes, cosmetics, and other small items, often used to build SKU master data.
  • All Parcel Mode at the mount height of 1.5 meters – For measuring everyday packages, ideal for calculating shipping charges at the pack station.
  • White Goods Mode at the mount height of 2.2 meters – For bulky or irregular items such as appliances, typically installed at floor level for exclusion flow processing.
Step 1: Place the parcel beneath the camera on the weighing scale
Step 2: Scan the barcode to trigger measurements (Multiple trigger options available)
Step 3: The dimensioner records the Length, Width, Height, and Weight of the parcel while mapping the barcode against the SKU. Additionally, it captures the parcel image along with annotations.
Step 4: The measurement data is transferred to vMeasure Forge (our cloud solution), where it will be securely stored for 30 days. The data can be pushed to any external software such as WMS, TMS, shipping software, and carrier software.
