USPS parcel dimension compliance is becoming a bigger topic for ecommerce sellers, warehouses, 3PLs, and commercial shippers.

Starting July 12, 2026, USPS will require commercial mailers to include accurate length, width, and height for all parcels included in a manifest under covered services, including Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select. This means many small packages that previously moved without full dimensional data will now need accurate package dimensions in the manifest.
For 3PL ecommerce sellers and fulfillment operation, this creates a new operating question:
Are package dimensions captured accurately before the label is created and before the manifest is submitted?
If the answer is no, then you may need to review its packing, measurement, and data flow before July 2026.

Which USPS Services Are Affected?

The new parcel dimension compliance standard applies to specific USPS commercial products.

The affected services are:

  • Priority Mail

Dimensions are not required for Flat-Rate-priced pieces or USPS Returns pieces under this update.

The Dimension Noncompliance fee for all parcels will be deferred until Phase Two. Until Phase Two begins, USPS will continue applying the existing noncompliance fee only for parcels that exceed one cubic foot or 22 inches in length when dimensions are missing or inaccurate.
Phase Two is tentatively scheduled for early 2027.
In Phase Two, USPS plans to use an automated approach to detect whether dimensions are included and accurate. Once Phase Two begins, mailers may be charged the Dimension Noncompliance fee when parcel dimensions are missing or inaccurate in the manifest.
For shippers, July 2026 should be treated as the operational deadline. Waiting until Phase Two may leave very little time to fix measurement gaps, system mapping issues, and packing process inconsistencies.
