UPS uses Dimensional Weight (DIM weight) to price packages based on the space they occupy rather than just actual weight.
UPS Dimensional Weight Formula
Dimensional Weight (lbs) = (Length × Width × Height) ÷ DIM Divisor
- Dimensions are in inches
- Round each measurement to the nearest whole inch
- Round the final dimensional weight up to the next whole pound
UPS DIM Divisors
The “divisor” is not the same for everyone. It depends on your account type and where the package is going.
- For Daily Rates, the UPS DIM weight formula is: DIM weight = (Length * Width * Height) / 139
- For Retail Rates, the UPs DIM weight formula is: DIM weight = (Length * Width * Height) / 166
