How is FedEx dim weight pricing calculated?

Home General Faqs How is FedEx dim weight pricing calculated?
FedEx dimensional (DIM) weight pricing is based on how much space a package takes up relative to its actual weight.

How to calculate FedEx DIM weight?

1. Measure the package

Measure the length × width × height in inches.
Use the longest point for each side and round each measurement up to the nearest whole inch.

2. Calculate cubic size

Cubic Inches = L x W x H

3. Divide by the DIM divisor
For most U.S. FedEx Ground and Express shipments, the DIM divisor is: 139
Dim weight = L x W x H/139
4. Round up the result

Always round the result up to the next whole pound.

Important Notes:
  • DIM pricing generally applies to all packages (not just large ones).
  • International shipments may use different rules.
  • Very large packages may incur Additional Handling or Oversize fees.
  • Contracted FedEx accounts may have custom DIM divisors.
