How Did a Shipping and Fulfillment Operation Use Parcel Images to Recover Lost Revenue?

A shipping and fulfillment operation was relying on manual parcel data capture at its inbound station. Parcel information had to be recorded separately, while shipment records did not consistently include an image showing what had actually been received.
The gap became more visible when the operation needed to review damage claims, carrier chargebacks, parcel audits, or insurance cases. Without measurement data and parcel images linked to the same record, verifying a shipment and supporting a dispute took more effort.
The operation needed a receiving process that captured parcel dimensions and images together and moved the required information into its existing shipping software.

Where Was the Receiving Process Breaking Down?

The existing process depended heavily on manual parcel measurement and record keeping.
Dimensional information was recorded, but there was no consistent way to connect that measurement with a visual record of the parcel condition at receiving. When a claim or chargeback was raised later, operators had limited evidence to check what had actually arrived.
Measurement, image capture, and record management also happened through separate activities. As parcel volumes increased, maintaining those records through the same manual approach became harder.
To close that gap, the shipping and fulfillment operation needed to bring measurement and image capture into one receiving workflow and keep both records available for later verification.

How Did the vMeasure Parcel Dimensioner Change the Receiving Workflow?

The operation installed a vMeasure parcel dimensioner at its inbound station. The system captured parcel dimensions in less than one second while covering most of the SKU sizes handled at receiving.

An image was captured during the same measurement process. To connect those images with the operation’s existing shipping software, vMeasure provided a custom workflow that converted each parcel image into a compatible format (Base64), allowing it to be transferred along with the parcel information.

The new receiving workflow followed four steps:

  1. The parcel was placed at the measurement station.
  2. Dimensions were captured automatically.
  3. An image of the measured parcel was recorded.
  4. The required parcel data and image were transferred into the existing shipping software.
Instead of managing measurement and visual records separately, operators now created both as part of the same inbound process.

What Changed Before and After vMeasure?

Before vMeasure After vMeasure
Parcel information was collected manually
Parcel dimensions were captured automatically
Measurement and record keeping happened through separate steps
Dimensions and images were captured in one workflow
Shipment records had limited visual evidence
Parcel images were available with the measurement record
Claims and chargebacks were harder to verify
Records were available for review when disputes occurred

What Improved After the New Workflow Was Introduced?

With dimensional data and parcel images linked to the same record, the operation had better information to review damage claims, parcel audits, insurance cases, and carrier chargebacks.
Automated measurement also reduced the manual work involved in capturing parcel information and allowed the operation to process more parcels than with its previous approach.
Most importantly, those records gave the shipping and fulfillment operation stronger evidence when disputes occurred. They were used to support claim reviews and recover revenue that had previously been difficult to verify.
If your receiving process still separates parcel measurement from image capture, the same record gap can make claims and chargebacks harder to resolve.
