How Did a Fulfillment Center Improve Billing Accuracy and Damage Claim Review With Automated Parcel Dimensioning?

A fulfillment center was measuring inbound SKUs by hand and then entering the dimensions into its warehouse system.
Those measurements were used for customer billing, storage allocation, and put-away. But when a customer questioned a billing record or reported damaged goods, the operation had limited measurement and image records to check what had actually been received.
The fulfillment center wanted to capture reliable SKU dimensions, keep an image record, and send that data into its existing WMS as part of the same receiving process.

Where Was the Receiving Process Breaking Down?

Operators measured each SKU manually before entering the dimensions into the warehouse system. That meant measurement and data entry happened as two separate steps.
If a customer later questioned the dimensions used for billing, the fulfillment center had to go back to manually recorded values. Damage claims were also harder to review because there wasn’t a consistent image showing the condition of the SKU when it arrived.
The same dimensional data also went into the WMS for storage allocation and put-away. If the measurement was not reliable at receiving, that record followed the SKU into the next warehouse process.

Why Did the Existing Workflow Need to Change?

The issue wasn’t just the time spent measuring.
The receiving process did not create one complete record that included the SKU dimensions, an image, and the data needed by the WMS.
Operators had to complete these steps separately, which made it harder to keep the process consistent.
The fulfillment center needed a way to capture that information at the point of receiving without rebuilding its existing warehouse workflow.

How Did vMeasure automated parcel dimensioning Change the Receiving Workflow?

The fulfillment center placed the vMeasure parcel ultima at the receiving station and integrated it with its existing WMS.

When a SKU arrived, the operator scanned the barcode. vMeasure then captured the dimensions in under one second and took an image of the item during the same step.

The dimension data was sent to the WMS through no-code API integration. The image settings were configured based on the records the fulfillment center wanted to keep.

This brought measurement, image capture, and WMS entry into the same receiving process instead of handling each one separately.

What Changed Before and After installing vMeasure Automated Parcel Dimensioning?

Before vMeasure After vMeasure
Operators measured SKUs manually
Dimensions were captured automatically at receiving
Measurement and WMS entry happened separately
Dimensional data was transferred into the WMS
No consistent image record accompanied each measurement
An SKU image was captured during parcel dimensioning
Billing reviews relied on manually recorded dimensions
Verified measurement records were available for review
Several steps were needed to measure and record a SKU
End-to-end parcel dimensioning took less than 3 seconds

What Improved After the New Parcel Dimensioning Process?

The fulfillment center now had a more consistent record of the SKUs entering the facility.
When a billing question came up, operations had a verified measurement record to check. If damaged goods were reported, the receiving image gave them a visual reference from the point the SKU entered the facility.
The WMS also received accurate SKU dimensions for storage allocation and put-away. At the receiving station, the full parcel dimensioning process took less than three seconds from measurement through record capture.
